Who We Are. What We Do. Why It Matters.
FINE ART LIVES IN GEORGINA
The Art Gallery of Georgina is a public art gallery and museum in Sutton, Ontario. As a registered charitable organization, we are dedicated to preserving creativity, inspiring curiosity, and enriching community life across our region and beyond.
Our permanent collection is the heart of the gallery. It includes paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and photographs by significant Canadian artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Anchoring the collection is the extraordinary body of work by Albert Chiarandini (1915–2007), the Italian-Canadian painter widely regarded as the “eighth” or “unsung” member of the Group of Seven. After studying under Franklin Carmichael, Chiarandini produced over 3,000 works that vividly capture Ontario landscapes, Toronto scenes, and everyday life in a style deeply connected to Canada’s modernist landscape tradition.
In 2004, Bruce Smith—one of Chiarandini’s former students, a respected artist, and dedicated collector—donated nearly 200 of these paintings to establish the core of our holdings. This generous gift preserves an essential chapter in Canadian art history that continues to resonate today and forms the foundation of our permanent collection.
We present a thoughtful program of changing exhibitions that highlight the permanent collection, feature established and emerging artists, and explore themes meaningful to Georgina and the wider world. Year-round, we offer workshops, youth and teen programs, children’s camps, school experiences, community partnerships, and initiatives like our annual Seven Stories Writing Competition. These opportunities invite visitors of all ages to explore, create, learn, and connect with art in ways that spark reflection and conversation.
The Art Gallery of Georgina is a welcoming space to slow down, look closely, and be inspired. Free admission. Donations appreciated. Open to everyone.

Our Role & Impact
Is the Art Gallery of Georgina a Gallery or a Museum?
We are both.
As a gallery, we curate exhibitions, collaborate with artists, and bring contemporary and regional perspectives into public view.
As a museum, we hold a permanent collection in trust for the community, preserving it with professional standards and using it to deepen understanding of the region’s cultural story.
This dual identity shapes every part of our work.
